3.1 papco_default.dat

This is a very simple file containing some default settings for PaPCo widgets and some default paths for files. A sample defaults file is included in the distribution under papco/papco_doc/papco_default.dat.

This file should resides in the user's papco_user directory. You may change the defaults either by editing this file or changing the corresponding widget entries in the PaPCo defaults widget (See Figure 4.4). The current state when you exit PaPCo is always written to this file, and is loaded again the next time you start.

NB. You do not require this file to be present the first time you start PaPCo. If PaPCo cannot find the file, it uses built in defaults, and the first time you exit, it writes this defaults file. To ensure a smooth startup of PaPCo the first time you start PaPCo, it is strongly advised to start off without a papco_default.dat file and to attempt editing it only after PaPCo has constructed the file on exiting. Preferably, use the defaults widget.

3.1.0.1 Upgrading from previous Versions of PaPCo

In general, it is best to also install a new papco_user_XX directory for your new version. You can then copy over your product files from the old papco_user/papco_products subdirectory to the new one: from PaPCo 09 onwards all products are upwards compatible!

You might also want to copy over your old papco_printer.dat, these files always have been compatible across PaPCo versions.

DO NOT use your old papco_default.dat file, as the default setting capability may have been extended. It's best to start up the new version of PaPCo without this file, it will be ``re-made'' the first time you exit, and you can then edit the new file to reflect your old defaults.
