What's New in Papco 12?
The main theme of papco 12 is that we abondon the legacy look and feel of the
earlier papcos, and take the liberty of making improvements to the module interface
when necessary. The goal of PaPCo 12 is to provide the most efficient user interface
possible, reducing the code liability of modules by eliminating administrative
and redundant code, and make creation of new modules as simple as possible.
Therefore, a module might be identified as "papco 12 compliant," meaning
it will work with papco 12 but not earlier versions. Similarly, older modules
might not work correctly with papco 12 (particularly with slicing), but we will
fix these on request.
Menubar simplifies main widget, makes papco work more like other software ("file->open...
Easy access to common functions such as print to ps file, work off-line.
Add/Remove modules without having to restart papco.
Make new module wizard
Multi-panel slicing supported, Slices panel, and double-buffered slicing.
Editing of multiple panels to simplify layout creation
Papco dataset abstraction. If you get your data into our abstraction, you get caching, plotting, and slicing for free.(A papco dataset
is an IDL structure with prescribed tags.)
Papco property set abstraction. Compound widget provides editing of the property set, to reduce the code liability of
writing widget code. (A property set is a structure with auxillary tags that apply typeness to the properties.)
Improved batch facilities
Support for IDL Runtime allows use without IDL license
What's New in Papco 11?
The main goal of Papco 11 was to provide a consistent, robust version that works
consistently across all modules. Most every module is now able to retrieve data
automatically, and can display the data that is remotely available. Also, this
functionality works equally well on Linux, Windows, and Mac Os X platforms. Additional
unix platforms will be supported upon request.
Papco 11 contains a number of new components that provide standand functionality
to the modules. New modules can use these components to easily gain access to
the standard automatic data distribution facility, and mount a remote website as
if it were a local drive. Wget, gunzip, and zip are each included with papco to provide
uniform functionality on each platform.
Headless operation is supported, making papco more suitable for servers and batch
Printing and automatic data retrieval supported on Windows and Mac Os X
More intuitive controls like context menu for selecting slicers, and
parsed time range selections like "1/31/2004 14:04 - 15:34"
There have been improvements throughout the public modules, including the papco_cdf
module which can now discover new data sets.
It's easier to use than ever. A new time range parser allows the time axis
to be controlled with strings like "jan 2005" or "2005-053 9:15-9:30."
throughout papco is improved and error conditions are handled properly.
